You know you've been working too long/hard in palliative care when you read CREMATION instead of CONFIRMATION. You know you're really tired when you try putting your Metcard (public transport ticket) into the ATM instead of your debit card.

In other news I saw David McAllister (see icon) today. I walked into Borders to see whether they had any travel journals and thought that the person at the self-service search computer near the special orders/service counter looked like him. It was confirmed a few minutes later when I gave up looking in with the calendars and turned around to find him walking towards me in another section. I was too shy to say anything though, so I just smiled at him.

My travel plans for 2008 are progressing, but there are still a couple of things I wanted to ask about.

I've booked and paid a deposit for this Intrepid tour and got myself an earlybird deal, but I won't pay the balance until I've heard that the departure date is guaranteed (you need a minimum of 4 for it to go ahead and apparently I was the first to book that date).

I've booked and paid for the round world air tickets, flexi Eurail pass, car hire in the UK and travel insurance. I've even booked and paid a deposit for most of the accommodation. It's just the parts that I haven't been able to book that have me worried or rather Romania.

It's not unreasonable to want either a female dorm or single room if you're travelling alone is it? Hostelworld doesn't seem to have either of those in Bucharest or Brasov though. Just wondering whether anybody could recommend places to stay in those areas?

In terms of other accommodation I need, the hostel in Paris is via fax, in Northumberland via phone, in Scotland not available to book online yet and Cardiff I don't know. I was planning to stay at Cardiff Backpackers, but they only seem to have a twin room available. So I'm not quite sure whether I should fork out the extra for that or book the YHA or one nearby like Welsh Bicknor.

The only other question I had was about luggage. When I came back from Egypt the zip that attaches the daypack to my Cuba 75 backpack was broken. Which of the following options would you choose:
a) Use it without the daypack
b) Try to find a store that can fix the zip
c) Buy a new pack - I'm thinking grand tour by the same company as my old one
The advantage of using the old one is little or no outlay, but the new one I'm looking at has wheels that would make things easier in airports (because I prefer to cover up the shoulder straps when I'm checking a bag in).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
